Description: We're starting a local community revolution! Our goal is a "Meetup Everywhere about Most Everything", and we're on our way. We help people "use the internet to get off the internet" because Meetups change lives and can change the world.

We are profitable, growing, and committed to building an all-star, all-NYC company. We are a company that values doers over talkers and mentors over managers. We are a company where people who take risks and win are rewarded and grow.

After 11 years, Meetup has millions of members and hundreds of thousands of local groups. We’ve done all that without the help of anyone focused on communications, marketing, PR, or brand — but 2014 is going to be different. This year we are getting the word out about how incredible face-to-face community can be.

Meetup is looking for a Developer Evangelist to be the voice of our API developer community. You’ll be responsible for spreading the word about the work we’re doing at Meetup and act as a liaison between Meetup’s engineering team and outside developers.

This is a brand new role at Meetup. You should be excited about defining and growing evangelism at Meetup, and comfortable working across teams (engineering, communications, recruitment) to achieve your goals.

Here’s some of the stuff you’ll do:
  • Build and strengthen bridges between Meetup’s engineering team and the larger developer community
  • Create documentation and libraries for our API, including writing code examples and tutorials
  • Evangelize Meetup using Twitter, StackOverflow, blogs, and articles
  • Give tech talks at Meetups and other events
  • Be active in college recruitment, from attending job fairs to mentoring students at hackathons
  • Represent Meetup at conferences
  • Find new ways to interact with the developer community

Here’s what you should have:
  • A BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent technical experience
  • 2-5 years of experience as a software engineer, preferably at a startup
  • Strong experience with RESTful web services and building applications with APIs
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills — explaining challenging technical concepts to a variety of audiences should come naturally to you.
  • Experience blogging, tweeting, and writing technical articles. A strong web following is a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 40%
  • A passion for the tech industry, Meetup, and growing local community
Our team is smart, ambitious, supportive, and above all - we are excited by what we do. While meeting regular deadlines and being focused on quick, quality completion of projects, the environment is relaxed and fun.

Every member of the Meetup Team is expected to: be an Innovator; be a Collaborator; be a Champion for their ideas; be an Expert; have High Standards; be dedicated to the power of self-organized groups and our mission of A Meetup Everywhere About Most Everything ("MEME"); and most importantly, Get Stuff Done That Makes a Difference!
