The Published Content Service group is a team of skilled Devops System Administrators that is part of the larger AOL centralized Technology Operations group.  We are a team of 14 individuals that manage ~8000 physical and virtual assets across hundreds of projects.  We manage a publishing platform that serves the majority of AOL's brands, AOL.com, AOL Search, centralized big data needs and much more.  We have most software stacks under our umbrella, so if there is interest, there is opportunity to learn anything and everything.  

We are seeking a Senior System Administrator with at least 5+ years of solid infrastructure and enterprise systems experience supporting a variety of applications on Linux operating systems (ideally CentOS or RedHat Linux).

Candidate must be able to perform in-depth analysis to ensure maximum availability and performance; support applications from inception through deployment and beyond, ensuring that operational issues are considered as early in the development cycle as possible. Candidate should be willing to lead and accept full ownership for their primary applications.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Monitors and maintains multiple high visibility applications to achieve >99.9% uptime.
  • Candidate will need to be adept at troubleshooting across complex and interconnected systems, engaging peers and vendors as needed.
  • Proposes and implements system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of the system.
  • Analyzes metrics to identify trends in system behavior that require intervention.
  • Coordinates necessary maintenance and installations across partners to ensure minimal impact for users.
  • Responds to problem reports from users and partners promptly to isolate root cause and assist other team members as necessary to resolve.
Must have experience/expertise in:
 
  • Linux/Unix operating system
  • Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery support
  • Knowledge in Chef, Jenkins and Ansible
  • Perl, shell, Ruby or Python scripting
  • Supporting web server technologies (LAMP stack)
  • Wordpress or Drupal
  • Supporting 24/7 production environment
  • Is familiar with open source monitoring solutions
  • Supporting large scale server environment
  • Upgrading, patching and installing software
  • Ensuring maximum uptime and availability of all applications
  • Operationally supported systems in AWS
  • Networking and security administration
  • Troubleshooting Intel hardware
  • Working as part of a team
  • Solid oral/written communication skills
  • Participating in on-call rotation and be willing to work off hours as required


Qualified candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience supporting a variety of applications on Linux operating systems(ideally CentOS or RedHat Linux)
