As a Senior Front-End Engineer you will be focused on Video Players for ULIVE.  Your work is in front of many millions of end users every month. We are serving hundreds of millions of streams every month and sending thousands of events per second downstream to our web applications and data systems. You are passionate about serving up great web video experience at scale with a focus on performance and quality. You bring a solid understanding of the fundamentals of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and related web technologies and open-source ecosystems. You are passionate about modern engineering practices including test-driven development, continuous integration, and application monitoring. Your work is technically rock solid and visually appealing. Your development efforts will be embedded in many different sites with different web page structures and styles, and viewed in many different browsers on many devices including mobile and tablets.

Responsibilities:

  • Work well with product managers, UX designers, and back-end engineers to implement outstanding front-end solutions to cutting-edge web development problems.
  • Architect and implement players and playlist products that enable our customers to embed video playlists into their sites and configure them to their needs.
  • Embrace emerging standards while promoting best practices in order to push the limits of what a browser can do.
  • Set and advocate technical, design standards for front-end work and mentor other front-end engineers accordingly.
  • Manage your own time, and work well as part of a high-performance team.
  • Launch, iterate, learn and improve your work continuously.
  • Provide front-end engineering expertise to make ULIVE better for our users and customers.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in software development; in-depth experience developing numerous web-based applications.
  • Ability to communicate to all levels of users (internal and external), strong problem solving skills, adaptable, proactive, and willing to take ownership.
  • Expertise with advanced web technologies, especially JavaScript, HTML, and CSS using engineering approaches.
  • Experience with monitoring front-end applications (e.g. http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2013/06/11/front-end-ops/)
  • Experience with emerging web standards including HTML5 and CSS3.
  • Experience with emerging front-end automated testing frameworks (e.g. JS unit tests, Jasmine, Selenium).
  • Experience with scripting languages.

Preferred skills:

  • BA/MS in Computer Science or equivalent (In lieu of degree, relevant work experience).
  • Experience working in Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with emerging JavaScript technologies and third-party (embedded in other web sites) applications.
  • Familiarity with Ruby on Rails
