Description: THE FOUNDATION CENTER is the leading source of information about philanthropy worldwide. Through data, analysis, and training we connect people who want to change the world to the resources they need to succeed. Our organization's mission is to strengthen the social sector by advancing knowledge about philanthropy in the U.S. and around the world. Our vision is a world enriched by the effective allocation of philanthropic resources, informed public discourse about philanthropy, and broad understanding of the contributions of nonprofit activity to increasing opportunity and transforming lives.
With the movement of money, people, and ideas brought by globalization, our world is one of almost unlimited possibility. But it is also a world in which there is too much poverty, violence, and pollution and not enough justice, beauty, and opportunity. Foundations, with their freedom to innovate, and nonprofits, with their unlimited reserves of hope and commitment, must strive to change that. Technology is the accelerator.
Foundation Center has a team of ~15 programmers, designers, and database developers. We've built (and still maintain) hundreds of websites, apps, and databases, but we keep our focus on a few major initiatives every year. We're cultivating a culture of programmers who are fun, hard-working, team-loving, cutting edge, ethical, and accountable. We use lots of different technologies, but have a special appreciation for open source and emphasize prototyping and human-centered UX design whenever and wherever possible. Because we're a nonprofit, we might be considered "mellow" by for-profit standards -- but by nonprofit standards, we're very deadline-driven and experimental. We like to think it's the best of both worlds!
We curate data on philanthropy around the world, and then build mapping, data visualization, machine learning, and data search apps to help nonprofits get the resources they need, and to empower donors to make their decisions more strategic. We're looking for cutting edge technologists at several levels -- from data architecture to web and API development to the creation of dynamic front-end visualizations. We have a current opportunity for a Programmer to join our growing team of enthusiastic, open-minded, and hard-working programmers.
